Hazard Mitigation Grants
Grant Update (last updated 12/3/2018): Earlier in the year, the State of Texas announced that $500 million in 2017 hazard mitigation grant funding is available for local governments. The hazard mitigation grant is a competitive grant that requires both Texas Division of Emergency Management and FEMA approval. Fort Bend County has submitted two applications. Community Development Block Grant – Disaster Recovery 2017
Grant Update (last updated 12/3/2018): The US Department of Housing and Urban Development has allocated $5 billion in Community Development Block Grant – Disaster Recovery funding to Texas for 2017. This funding is administered through the Texas General Land Office and is primarily for housing projects and programs in low-to-moderate income areas.
Buyouts/Acquisitions and Infrastructure: As part of the General Land Office’s State Action Plan, some of $5 billion Community Development Block Grant – Disaster Recovery funding has been allocated to the Houston-Galveston Area Council (the regional council of governments that Fort Bend County is a part of). This funding is for buyouts/property acquisitions and for local infrastructure projects. Fort Bend County is estimated to receive $21,155,575 to be used for buyouts and acquisitions and $17,417,192 for infrastructure activities. More information is still forthcoming about these programs.
Housing Programs: The Texas General Land Office opened its Housing Assistance Program on December 1, 2018, and is now accepting applications from residents that were affected by Hurricane Harvey and are in need of home repairs. Residents can submit and check on their application at the link below. The program works on a first come, first serve basis.
