Managing Stress after a Disaster

May 14, 2019

Managing Stress after a DisasterManaging Stress after a Disaster

Disasters are stressful events which can impact us even after the disaster is over.

Experiencing stress is normal, but it is important to monitor your physical and mental health and that of your family after a disaster.  You should also know how to relieve stress and know when to seek further help.

The SAMHSA guide, Tips for Survivors – Managing Stress after a Disaster, provides tips to identify signs of stress and offers techniques to relieve some of that stress.

You can also check out this video from the American Psychological Association on 5 Tips for Coping with Natural Disaster Stress.

(If you live within the City of Sugar Land, the City will be doing its own debris pick up.  For debris pick up questions within the City of Sugar Land, please call the City or visit http://sugarlandtx.gov/1763/May-2019-Rain-Event for more information)

Notes:

  • Your debris must be placed at the curb
  • Refrigerators MUST be emptied before placing them at the curb
  • Put day to day trash in your normal trash pick up
